Want to Learn How to Look Good Without Makeup? Who doesn’t?
Learning how to look good without makeup is a very simple skill. What often keeps us feeling less than confident (especially those of us over 40) and feeling like we don’t look great without makeup is:
- uneven skin tone
- breakouts
- dryness
- redness
- looking washed out
Well, this is true for me, anyway.

It is truly possible to look good without makeup and radiate confidence at any age
Here’s how!
tame your brows
Your eyebrows are the central focus of your face and well-shaped brows can actually make you look like you’ve had a facelift! Get them shaped to fit your face shape and you’ll be amazed at the difference. This is the first and most underrated way to look good without makeup.
I use this light gel to keep mine in place. I use light, which may be cheating, but there is a clear version if you are a purist.
If you’d like, especially if your brows are light or sparse, you may choose to tint them or even try micro-blading. Just be sure to find reputable artists for these procedures. When choosing the color, make sure it works well for your hair color.
If you weren’t born with thick brows, apply castor oil to your eyebrows daily before bed. You will notice a difference in a few weeks.
focus on The eyes
dark circles and bags must go
Do you have dark circles under your eyes? Start by checking your diet. Nutrition is important if you want to look good without makeup. Dark circles can be the result of a deficiency of iron or B vitamins in your body. Consider a multi-vitamin.
You will also need to make sure you are getting enough sleep.
The right eye cream can help as well. Choose one with caffeine, which reduces bags and dark circles! I use and recommend this one!
Сold compresses with mint or green tea are useful if you have bags under your eyes.
lashes
To make your eyes look larger, carefully curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler, and apply a transparent growth serum or gel to them (optional). You can even go further and get eyelash extensions or use magnetic lashes like these.
whiten your teeth Naturally
Whiter teeth can not only improve your smile, but it can also make you look younger! Without the use of bright lip color to contrast your teeth enamel, it’s important to remove those stains for a brighter smile, naturally!
The healthiest (and actually quite effective) way to do this is with a charcoal whitener.
I use this one and love it!
Pure Activated Charcoal Powder is a great alternative to harsh bleach or whitening peroxides; no harmful chemicals; RECOMMENDED USE is 1-2 times per week. I mention this and the clay toothpaste I love in my detox your beauty routine post here.
Make sure your lips are smooth and moisturized.
Once you get those teeth brightened up it wouldn’t make sense to ignore your lips. Keep them exfoliated (you can use an old, soft-bristled toothbrush or a little baking soda) and apply a moisturizing lip balm.
I use this lip conditioner. It is pepperminty, fresh, and super hydrating!
get your skin looking it’s best.
Start by making sure you are eating well and drinking enough water. This will help eliminate dark circles and bags beneath your eyes and keep you glowing from within.
use a non-toxic regimen to avoid SKIN irritation.
Unfortunately, because there is so little regulation of the beauty industry, many popular products can actually make our skin issues worse!
You need products that will work safely and effectively to soothe, nourish, and hydrate your skin to reveal your own natural radiance. This will allow you to look great without makeup so you will no longer need to hide your skin.
On those days you choose to wear makeup you can do so to enhance your natural beauty rather than hide imperfections.
I recommend finding a regimen of products that work for you and get your skin in it’s best shape! I use this line for mature skin

Want a dewy glow?
Once your skin is well-taken care of, hydrated and smooth, it won’t take much to enhance that natural glow (if you even need it). But sometimes, especially in winter, it’s nice to get a little help with a touch of color and a dewy glow.
I recommend this tinted moisturizer that also doubles and skincare. it leaves skin with a luminous glow and SPF 20 protection and provides lightweight, sheer hydration that evens skin tone while protecting the skin from sun damage.
Black currant, peony flower root extract, and vitamin C reduce the appearance of age spots and enhance skin brightness, while sodium hyaluronate promotes firmer, smoother-looking skin.
use sunscreen every day
Ultraviolet radiation greatly increases the appearance of premature wrinkles and dark spots. It can also lead to skin cancer. Therefore, you need to protect your skin not only in the summer on the beach but throughout the year. When choosing a sunscreen, make sure you consider your health and the environment as well.
You may be surprised to learn that most sunscreens on the market contain toxic ingredients that are dangerous for you and the environment.
I use this award-winning version on myself and my family.
Sunscreen can contain harmful chemicals! Check out the one I use here. I trust this brand to keep me safe from toxins.
show your hair some love
Dull hair color and an outdated, or overgrown haircut will distract from your naturally beautiful, makeup-free face and can actually age you.
Choose simple hairstyles and natural colors
if you are coloring, make sure you are using a dye with safer ingredients, and natural, lighter colors, as more drastic options can be discordant with a natural appearance and look harsh.
Find your perfect hair color here.
Get your split ends cut regularly, use products with heat protection, and don’t go overboard with the styling products.
keep your gray bright and shiny
If you have ditched the dye, keep your hair as healthy as possible to keep your silver looking its best. Use a purple shampoo and conditioner like these weekly to combat brassiness and yellowing. Use a gloss from time to time no matter color you are rocking these days.
get some rest
This is easier said than done, I know, but proper sleep (at least 7-9 hours) is imperative for keeping your skin and your body healthy.
Sleep struggles plague so many of us after 40 that I wrote a post with tips on how to get some sleep, even if you have menopause insomnia, like me. you can read it here.
Try to sleep on your back to reduce the appearance of potential premature wrinkles or use a silk pillowcase, like this one. It will also help keep your second and third-day hair look great!
wear bright colors
Skin without foundation or blush looks paler, so bright, fresh colors can brighten your complexion.
The best ones are pure bright colors: blue, turquoise, emerald, bright pink, and even red- especially if you have gray hair.
